VISA & ARC






Foreign students enrolling in NTHU should apply for resident visas for entering Taiwan. (Resident Visa: foreign nationals who intent to stay in Taiwan for more than 6 months should apply for resident visas). However, resident Visa holders are required to apply for Alien Resident Certificates (ARC) within 15 days after arrival. Foreign students who have entered with Visitor Visas need to change the Visitor Visas into Resident Visa before getting an Alien Resident Certificate.

Resident VISA  Required Documents:

1. One copy of completed application form (Download) with two passport-size color photos taken within from the last 6 months.
2. A passport valid for no less than 6 months and a copy of it. Note: There should be enough empty pages in it.
3. Certification of enrollment issued by NTHU.
4. Proof of financial support, and other relevant documents.
5. Fee: NTD $2,200 (US$66); an additional handling charge of NT$800 (US$24) shall apply to applications made in the ROC by visitor visa holders applying for change or replacement of visitor visa or resident visa.

Application:
Submit visa application to Bureau of Consular Affair R.O.C. or to the overseas missions of the R.O.C. by applicant.

Notes:
1. According to the Statute Governing Issuance of ROC Visas in Foreign Passports, the Bureau of Consular Affair R.O.C. has the right to refuse the visa application and are not required to give any reason to visa applicant, fees are nonrefundable.

2. Applicants who have been notified and yet do not submit all required documents within 7 days would be refused. Fees are nonrefundable.

3. Those with a visitor’s visa cannot use studying purposes as a reason for extending their stay in Taiwan or switching to a resident visa. Those who are auditing or taking classes as non-university students cannot use studying purposes as their reason for visa application.

4. Foreigners holding a Resident-Visa or changing to a Resident Visa should go to the local National Immigration Agency (National Immigration Agency, Hsin Chu Office) to apply for Alien Resident Certificates and Re-entry permits within 15 days of arrival. They may stay in the ROC as long as the Alien Resident Certificate remains valid.

Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)
Required Documents (verify the original and take its copy):
1. One completed application form (Download)
2. Passport with Resident Visa
3. Student ID card or Enrollment Verification (original and copied); Overseas Chinese students who are first-time petitioners shall submit a notification of enrollment. The National Immigration Agency would process a 30-day ARC. To extend the ARC, a student ID or enrollment verification will be needed.
4.One passport-size color photo, front head and shoulder, taken in the past six months.
5. Student ID (original and copied)
6. Fee: NT$1,000- one year term.
Notes: ARC must be handed in for applying for extensions

Application:
Applicant should have all required documents prepared and go to the local NIA's service center (where applicant's residence address located) to apply IN PERSON. If not in person, the applicant will need to sign at the end of the application form to authorize another to perform the application process.

Notes:
Re-entry permits will be needed for Resident Visa holders to re-enter R.O.C. after leaving temporarily.
